A high ponytail is one of the hardest styles to pull off with thin or fine hair — there's nowhere for volume to hide. Here's how to get a full, salon-look ponytail with clip-in extensions.
1. Prep your natural hair first
Brush your hair completely smooth and decide where your ponytail will sit before you clip anything in — it's much easier to place wefts around a style you've already mapped out than to fight them into place afterward.
2. Clip in from the bottom up
Start with the lowest weft, close to the nape of your neck, and work upward. Each weft should sit just above the last, angled slightly to follow your head's natural curve, so the layers stack invisibly under the ponytail.
3. Gather everything together
Once every weft is in, brush your natural hair and the extensions together as one unit before you tie anything back — this is the step that actually blends them, and skipping it is the most common reason extensions look separate from natural hair in a ponytail.
4. Tie it up and hide the seam
Pull the ponytail up and secure it, then take a small section of your own hair from underneath and wrap it around the base to cover the elastic and any visible clips.
5. Finish and set
A light shine spray adds polish without weighing the ponytail down, and a quick pass of a boar-bristle brush over the surface smooths any flyaways from both your natural hair and the extensions.
